I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood1 cannot inherit the kingdom of God,2 nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.351
Listen, I tell you a mystery:4 We will not all sleep,5 but we will all be changed6--
in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,7 the dead8 will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
For the perishable9 must clothe itself with the imperishable,10 and the mortal with immortality.
When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory."a1155
"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"b1256
The sting of death is sin,13 and the power of sin is the law.1457
But thanks be to God!15 He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.1658
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,17 because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.18
