Praise to God for a Living Hope

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!13 In his great mercy14 he has given us new birth15 into a living hope16 through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,17 4 and into an inheritance18 that can never perish, spoil or fade19--kept in heaven for you,20 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power21 until the coming of the salvation22 that is ready to be revealed23 in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice,24 though now for a little while25 you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.26 7 These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire27--may be proved genuine28 and may result in praise, glory and honor29 when Jesus Christ is revealed.30 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him31 and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.32
