13
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled;1 set your hope2 fully on the grace to be given you3 when Jesus Christ is revealed.414
As obedient5 children, do not conform6 to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.715
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;816
for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."a917
Since you call on a Father10 who judges each man's work11 impartially,12 live your lives as strangers13 here in reverent fear.1418
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed15 from the empty way of life16 handed down to you from your forefathers,
19
but with the precious blood17 of Christ, a lamb18 without blemish or defect.1920
He was chosen before the creation of the world,20 but was revealed in these last times21 for your sake.
21
Through him you believe in God,22 who raised him from the dead23 and glorified him,24 and so your faith and hope25 are in God.
22
Now that you have purified26 yourselves by obeying27 the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply,28 from the heart.b23
For you have been born again,29 not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,30 through the living and enduring word of God.3124
For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25
but the word of the Lord stands forever."c32 And this is the word that was preached to you.
