21 To this¹ you were called,² because Christ suffered for you,³ leaving you an example,⁴ that you should follow in his steps. 22 "He committed no sin,⁵ and no deceit was found in his mouth."^a⁶ 23 When they hurled their insults at him,⁷ he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats.⁸ Instead, he entrusted himself⁹ to him who judges justly.¹⁰ 24 He himself bore our sins¹¹ in his body on the tree,¹² so that we might die to sins¹³ and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.¹⁴
