Do not repay evil with evil1 or insult with insult,2 but with blessing,3 because to this4 you were called5 so that you may inherit a blessing.610
For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."a713
Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?814
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.9 "Do not fear what they fearb; do not be frightened."c1015
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer11 to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope12 that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
keeping a clear conscience,13 so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.1417
It is better, if it is God's will,15 to suffer for doing good16 than for doing evil.
For Christ died for sins17 once for all,18 the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.19 He was put to death in the body20 but made alive by the Spirit,2119
through whomd also he went and preached to the spirits in prison22
