But since we belong to the day,1 let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate,2 and the hope of salvation3 as a helmet.49
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath5 but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.610
He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.711
Therefore encourage one another8 and build each other up,9 just as in fact you are doing.
Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard10 among you, who are over you in the Lord11 and who admonish you.
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.1214
And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle,13 encourage the timid, help the weak,14 be patient with everyone.
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong,15 but always try to be kind to each other16 and to everyone else.
Be joyful always;1717
give thanks in all circumstances,19 for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
