From Miletus,1 Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders2 of the church.
When they arrived, he said to them: "You know how I lived the whole time I was with you,3 from the first day I came into the province of Asia.419
I served the Lord with great humility and with tears,5 although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews.620
You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything7 that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.
I have declared to both Jews8 and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance9 and have faith in our Lord Jesus.1022
"And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem,11 not knowing what will happen to me there.
I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me12 that prison and hardships are facing me.1324
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me,14 if only I may finish the race15 and complete the task16 the Lord Jesus has given me17--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.1825
"Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom19 will ever see me again.2026
Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.2127
For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.2228
Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock23 of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.a24 Be shepherds of the church of God,b25 which he bought26 with his own blood.27
