It happenedafter a while that the brookdried up, because there was norain in the land.
Then the word of the LORDcame to him, saying,
9"Arise, go to 1Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and staythere; behold, 2I have commanded a widowthere to provide for you."
So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was theregatheringsticks; and 3he called to her and said, "Pleaseget me a littlewater in a ajar, that I may drink."
As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, "Pleasebring me a piece of bread in your hand."
But she said, "4As the LORD your Godlives, 5I havenobbread, only a handful of flour in the cbowl and a littleoil in the jar; and behold, I am gatheringda fewsticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and 6die."
Then Elijahsaid to her, "Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a littlebreadcake from eit first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son.
"For thussays the LORDGod of Israel, 'The fbowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oilgbe empty, until the day that the LORDsendsrain on the face of the earth.' "
So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her householdate for many days.
The hbowl of flour was not exhaustednor did the jar of oilibecomeempty, according to the word of the LORDwhich He spokethroughElijah.
Now it came about afterthesethings that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, becamesick; and his sickness was sosevere that there was nobreathleft in him.
So she said to Elijah, "7What do I have to do with you, O 8man of God? jYou have come to me to bring my iniquity to remembrance and to put my son to death!"
He said to her, "Give me your son." Then he took him from her bosom and carried him up to the upperroomwhere he was living, and laid him on his own bed.
He called to the LORD and said, "O LORD my God, have You alsobroughtcalamity to the widow with whom I am kstaying, by causing her son to die?"
219Then he stretched himself upon the childthreetimes, and called to the LORD and said, "O LORD my God, I pray You, let thischild'slifereturnlto him."
The LORDheard the voice of Elijah, 10and the life of the childreturnedmto him and he revived.
23Elijahtook the child and brought him down from the upperroom into the house and gave him to his mother; and Elijahsaid, "See, your son is alive."
Then the womansaid to Elijah, "11Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth."
