8 aTo sum up, 1all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, 2brotherly, 3kindhearted, and 4humble in spirit; 9 5not returning evil for evil or 6insult for insult, but bgiving a 7blessing instead; for 8you were called for the very purpose that you might 9inherit a blessing. 10 For, "10THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT. 11 "11HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD; HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT. 12 "12FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER, BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL." 13 13Who is cthere to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 14 But even if you should 14suffer for the sake of righteousness, 15you dare blessed. 16AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR eINTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED, 15 but fsanctify 17Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready 18to make a gdefense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the 19hope that is in you, yet 20with gentleness and h21reverence; 16 iand keep a 22good conscience so that in the thing in which 23you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame. 17 For 24it is better, 25if jGod should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.
