3 If anyone 1advocates a different doctrine and does not aagree with 2sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine 3conforming to godliness, 4 he is 4conceited and understands nothing; but he bhas a morbid interest in 5controversial questions and 6disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction between 7men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who 8suppose that cgodliness is a means of gain. 6 9But godliness actually is a means of 10great gain when accompanied by 11contentment. 7 For 12we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. 8 If we 13have food and covering, with these we shall be content. 9 14But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and 15a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For 16the love of money is a root of all dsorts of evil, and some by longing for it have 17wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 11 But 18flee from these things, you 19man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, 20faith, 21love, eperseverance and gentleness. 12 22Fight the good fight of 23faith; 24take hold of the eternal life 25to which you were called, and you made the good 26confession in the presence of 27many witnesses. 13 28I charge you in the presence of God, who fgives life to all things, and of 29Christ Jesus, who testified the 30good confession 31before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the 32appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which He will gbring about at 33the proper time -He who is 34the blessed and 35only Sovereign, 36the King of hkings and 37Lord of ilords, 16 38who alone possesses immortality and 39dwells in unapproachable light, 40whom no man has seen or can see. 41To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. 17 Instruct those who are rich in 42this present world 43not to be conceited or to 44fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, 45who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in 46good jworks, 47to be generous and ready to share, 19 48storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may 49take hold of that which is life indeed.
