1 Peter 3:14-22 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.1 "Do not fear what they feara; do not be frightened."b2 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer3 to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope4 that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience,5 so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.6 17 It is better, if it is God's will,7 to suffer for doing good8 than for doing evil. 18 For Christ died for sins9 once for all,10 the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.11 He was put to death in the body12 but made alive by the Spirit,13 19 through whomc also he went and preached to the spirits in prison14 20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently15 in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.16 In it only a few people, eight in all,17 were saved18 through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you19 also--not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledged of a good conscience20 toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,21 22 who has gone into heaven22 and is at God's right hand23--with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.24
