During Jehoiakim's reign, Nebuchadnezzar1 king of Babylon invaded2 the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he changed his mind and rebelled3 against Nebuchadnezzar.
The LORD sent Babylonian,a4 Aramean,5 Moabite and Ammonite raiders6 against him. He sent them to destroy7 Judah, in accordance with the word of the LORD proclaimed by his servants the prophets.83
Surely these things happened to Judah according to the LORD's command,9 in order to remove them from his presence10 because of the sins of Manasseh11 and all he had done,
including the shedding of innocent blood.12 For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was not willing to forgive.13
