So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of NimshiconspiredagainstJoram. 1Now Joramawith allIsrael was bdefendingRamoth-gileadagainstHazaelking of Aram,
but 2KingcJoram had returned to Jezreel to be healed of the woundswhich the Arameans had dinflicted on him when he fought with Hazaelking of Aram. So Jehusaid, "If this is your mind, then let nooneescape or eleave the city to gotell it in Jezreel."
Then Jehurode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lyingthere. 3Ahaziahking of Judah had comedown to seeJoram.
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he saw the fcompany of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a gcompany." And Joramsaid, "Take a horseman and send him to meet them and let him say, 'Is it peace?' "
So a horsemanwent to meet him and said, "Thussays the king, 'Is it peace?' " And Jehusaid, "4What have you to do with peace? Turnbehind me." And the watchmanhreported, "The messengercame to them, but he did not return."
Then he sent out a secondhorseman, who came to them and said, "Thussays the king, 'Is it peace?' " And Jehuianswered, "What have you to do with peace? Turnbehind me."
The watchmanjreported, "He cameeven to them, and he did not return; and 5the driving is like the driving of 6Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drivesfuriously."
Then kJoramsaid, "lGetready." And they made his chariotready. m7Joramking of Israel and Ahaziahking of Judahwent out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meetJehu and found him in the n8property of Naboth the Jezreelite.
When oJoramsawJehu, he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" And he panswered, "Whatpeace, 9solong as the harlotries of your motherJezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?"
So qJoramrreinedabout and fled and said to Ahaziah, "10There is treachery, O Ahaziah!"
And 11Jehusdrew his bow with his fullstrength and tshotuJorambetween his arms; and the arrowwentvthrough his heart and he sank in his chariot.
Then Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, "Take him up and 12cast him into the wproperty of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite, for I remember when xyou and I were ridingtogetherafterAhab his father, that the 13LORDlaidthis14oracleagainst him:
26'Surely15I have seenyesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD, 'and 16I will repay you in thisyproperty,' says the LORD. Now then, take and cast him into the zproperty, according to the word of the LORD."
2717When Ahaziah the king of Judahsaw this, he fled by the way of the gardenhouse. And Jehupursued him and said, "aaShoot him too, in the chariot." So they shot him at the ascent of Gur, which is at 18Ibleam. But he fled to Megiddo and diedthere.
2819Then his servantscarried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his grave with his fathers in the city of David.
Now in 20the eleventhyear of Joram, the son of Ahab, AhaziahbecamekingoverJudah.
