The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.17
Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead,2 descended from David.3 This is my gospel,49
for which I am suffering5 even to the point of being chained6 like a criminal. But God's word7 is not chained.
Therefore I endure everything8 for the sake of the elect,9 that they too may obtain the salvation10 that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.1111
Here is a trustworthy saying:12 If we died with him, we will also live with him;1312
if we endure, we will also reign with him.14 If we disown him, he will also disown us;1513
if we are faithless, he will remain faithful,16 for he cannot disown himself.
Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words;17 it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.1816
Avoid godless chatter,19 because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus20 and Philetus,
who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place,21 and they destroy the faith of some.22
