Now when I went to Troas1 to preach the gospel of Christ2 and found that the Lord had opened a door3 for me,
I still had no peace of mind,4 because I did not find my brother Titus5 there. So I said good-by to them and went on to Macedonia.614
But thanks be to God,7 who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance8 of the knowledge9 of him.
For we are to God the aroma10 of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.1116
To the one we are the smell of death;12 to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?1317
Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit.14 On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity,15 like men sent from God.16
