"1May it afall on the head of Joab and on all his father'shouse ; and may there not fail from the house of Joab2one who has a discharge, or who is a leper, or who takeshold of a distaff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacksbread."
30
So Joab and Abishai his brotherkilledAbner3because he had put their brotherAsahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.
31
Then Davidsaid to Joab and to all the peoplewho were with him, "4Tear your clothes and gird on sackcloth and lamentbeforeAbner." And KingDavidwalkedbehind the bier.
32
Thus they buriedAbner in Hebron ; and the kinglifted up his voice and wept at 5the grave of Abner, and all the peoplewept.
336The kingchanted a lament for Abner and said, "Should Abnerdie as a fooldies ?
34
"Your hands were not bound, nor your feetput in fetters ; As one fallsbefore the bwicked , you have fallen." And all the peopleweptagainover him.
35
Then all the peoplecame7to cpersuade David to eatbread while it was stillday ; but Davidvowed, saying, "8May Goddoso to me, and more also, if I tastebreadoranythingelse9before the sungoes down."
36
Now all the peopletooknote of it, and it dpleased them, just as everything the kingdidepleasedall the people.
37
So all the people and allIsraelunderstood that day that it had not been the will of the king to putAbner the son of Ner to death.
38
Then the kingsaid to his servants, "Do you not know that a prince and a greatman has fallenthisday in Israel ?
