When Joab and all the army that was with him arrived, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he has gone in peace."

And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God which is called by the Name, the very name of the LORD of hosts who is enthroned above the cherubim.

"Now therefore, thus you shall say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.

that Your name may be magnified forever , by saying, 'The LORD of hosts is God over Israel '; and may the house of Your servant David be established before You.

"For You, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have made a revelation to Your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house '; therefore Your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to You.

And Hadadezer sent and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the River, and they came to Helam ; and Shobach the commander of the army of Hadadezer led them.

But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed charioteers of the Arameans and 40,000 horsemen and struck down Shobach the commander of their army, and he died there.

Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.

"Say to Amasa, 'Are you not my bone and my flesh ? May God do so to me, and more also, if you will not be commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab.' "
