Then the angel of God,1 who had been traveling in front of Israel's army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud2 also moved from in front and stood behind3 them,
coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness4 to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
Then Moses stretched out his hand5 over the sea,6 and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind7 and turned it into dry land.8 The waters were divided,922
and the Israelites went through the sea10 on dry ground,11 with a wall12 of water on their right and on their left.
