You have planted much, but have harvested little.1 You eat, but never have enough.2 You drink, but never have your fill.3 You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages,4 only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought5 to your ways.
Go up into the mountains and bring down timber6 and build the house, so that I may take pleasure7 in it and be honored,8" says the LORD.
"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little.9 What you brought home, I blew10 away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin,11 while each of you is busy with his own house.
Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld12 their dew13 and the earth its crops.1411
I called for a drought15 on the fields and the mountains,16 on the grain, the new wine,17 the oil18 and whatever the ground produces, on men and cattle, and on the labor of your hands.19"
