Hebrews 2:11-17 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
11 Both the one who makes men holy1 and those who are made holy2 are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.3 12 He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises."a4 13 And again, "I will put my trust in him."b5 And again he says, "Here am I, and the children God has given me."c6 14 Since the children have flesh and blood,7 he too shared in their humanity8 so that by his death he might destroy9 him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil10-- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear11 of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.12 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers13 in every way, in order that he might become a merciful14 and faithful high priest15 in service to God,16 and that he might make atonement ford the sins of the people.17
