1 "This is what the LORD says to his anointed,¹ to Cyrus,² whose right hand I take hold³ of to subdue nations⁴ before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: 2 I will go before you⁵ and will level⁶ the mountains^a; I will break down gates⁷ of bronze and cut through bars of iron.⁸ 3 I will give you the treasures⁹ of darkness, riches stored in secret places,¹⁰ so that you may know¹¹ that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.¹² 4 For the sake of Jacob my servant,¹³ of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge¹⁴ me. 5 I am the LORD, and there is no other;¹⁵ apart from me there is no God.¹⁶ I will strengthen you,¹⁷ though you have not acknowledged me,
