Shout for joy,1 O heavens; rejoice, O earth;2 burst into song, O mountains!3 For the LORD comforts4 his people and will have compassion5 on his afflicted ones.614
But Zion7 said, "The LORD has forsaken8 me, the Lord has forgotten me."
"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child9 she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!1016
See, I have engraved11 you on the palms of my hands; your walls12 are ever before me.
Your sons hasten back, and those who laid you waste13 depart from you.
Lift up your eyes and look around; all your sons gather14 and come to you. As surely as I live,15" declares the LORD, "you will wear16 them all as ornaments; you will put them on, like a bride.
"Though you were ruined and made desolate17 and your land laid waste,18 now you will be too small for your people,19 and those who devoured20 you will be far away.
The children born during your bereavement will yet say in your hearing, 'This place is too small for us; give us more space to live in.'2121
Then you will say in your heart, 'Who bore me these?22 I was bereaved23 and barren; I was exiled and rejected.24 Who brought these25 up? I was left26 all alone,27 but these--where have they come from?' "
This is what the Sovereign LORD28 says: "See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner29 to the peoples; they will bring30 your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders.3123
Kings32 will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers.33 They will bow down34 before you with their faces to the ground; they will lick the dust35 at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD;36 those who hope37 in me will not be disappointed.38"
Can plunder be taken from warriors,39 or captives rescued from the fiercea ?
But this is what the LORD says: "Yes, captives40 will be taken from warriors,41 and plunder retrieved from the fierce;42 I will contend with those who contend with you,4344 and your children I will save.4526
I will make your oppressors46 eat47 their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood,48 as with wine. Then all mankind will know49 that I, the LORD, am your Savior,50 your Redeemer,51 the Mighty One of Jacob.52"
