The Sovereign LORD1 has given me an instructed tongue,2 to know the word that sustains the weary.3 He wakens me morning by morning,4 wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.55
The Sovereign LORD6 has opened my ears,7 and I have not been rebellious;8 I have not drawn back.
I offered my back to those who beat9 me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;10 I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.117
Because the Sovereign LORD12 helps13 me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint,14 and I know I will not be put to shame.158
He who vindicates16 me is near.17 Who then will bring charges against me?18 Let us face each other!19 Who is my accuser? Let him confront me!
It is the Sovereign LORD20 who helps21 me. Who is he that will condemn22 me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths23 will eat them up.
