I offered my back to those who beat1 me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;2 I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.3

Because the Sovereign LORD4 helps5 me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint,6 and I know I will not be put to shame.7

He who vindicates8 me is near.9 Who then will bring charges against me?10 Let us face each other!11 Who is my accuser? Let him confront me!

It is the Sovereign LORD12 who helps13 me. Who is he that will condemn14 me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths15 will eat them up.
