In all their distress he too was distressed, and the angel1 of his presence2 saved them. In his love and mercy he redeemed3 them; he lifted them up and carried4 them all the days of old.510
Yet they rebelled6 and grieved his Holy Spirit.7 So he turned and became their enemy8 and he himself fought9 against them.
Then his people recalleda the days of old, the days of Moses and his people-- where is he who brought them through the sea,10 with the shepherd of his flock?11 Where is he who set his Holy Spirit12 among them,
who sent his glorious arm13 of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters14 before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown,1513
who led16 them through the depths?17 Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble;18
