He said, "Go1 and tell this people: " 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'210
Make the heart of this people calloused;3 make their ears dull and close their eyes.a4 Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears,5 understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed."611
Then I said, "For how long, O Lord?"7 And he answered: "Until the cities lie ruined8 and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted9 and the fields ruined and ravaged,1012
until the LORD has sent everyone far away11 and the land is utterly forsaken.1213
And though a tenth remains13 in the land, it will again be laid waste.14 But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps15 when they are cut down, so the holy16 seed will be the stump in the land."17
