The eye of the adulterer1 watches for dusk;2 he thinks, 'No eye will see me,'3 and he keeps his face concealed.

In the dark, men break into houses,4 but by day they shut themselves in; they want nothing to do with the light.5

For all of them, deep darkness is their morninga; they make friends with the terrors6 of darkness.b7

"Yet they are foam8 on the surface of the water;9 their portion of the land is cursed,10 so that no one goes to the vineyards.11
