View In My Bible
20 and his heart did not bless me1 for warming him with the fleece2 from my sheep, 21 if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,3 knowing that I had influence in court,4 22 then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint.5 23 For I dreaded destruction from God,6 and for fear of his splendor7 I could not do such things.8 24 "If I have put my trust in gold9 or said to pure gold, 'You are my security,'10 25 if I have rejoiced over my great wealth,11 the fortune my hands had gained,12 26 if I have regarded the sun13 in its radiance or the moon14 moving in splendor, 27 so that my heart was secretly enticed15 and my hand offered them a kiss of homage,16 28 then these also would be sins to be judged,17 for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.18
