1 "At this my heart pounds1 and leaps from its place. 2 Listen!2 Listen to the roar of his voice,3 to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.4 3 He unleashes his lightning5 beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.6 4 After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders7 with his majestic voice.8 When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back. 5 God's voice thunders9 in marvelous ways;10 he does great things beyond our understanding.11 6 He says to the snow,12 'Fall on the earth,' and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'13 7 So that all men he has made may know his work,14 he stops every man from his labor.a15 8 The animals take cover;16 they remain in their dens.17 9 The tempest comes out from its chamber,18 the cold from the driving winds.19 10 The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen.20 11 He loads the clouds with moisture;21 he scatters his lightning22 through them.23 12 At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them.24 13 He brings the clouds to punish men,25 or to water his earthb and show his love.26
