Then Moses gave to the Gadites,1 the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh2 son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites3 and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan4--the whole land with its cities and the territory around them.534
The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,635
Atroth Shophan, Jazer,7 Jogbehah,836
Beth Nimrah9 and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.1037
And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon,11 Elealeh12 and Kiriathaim,1338
as well as Nebo14 and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah.15 They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.
The descendants of Makir16 son of Manasseh went to Gilead,17 captured it and drove out the Amorites18 who were there.
So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites,19 the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.
Jair,20 a descendant of Manasseh, captured their settlements and called them Havvoth Jair.a2142
And Nobah captured Kenath22 and its surrounding settlements and called it Nobah23 after himself.24
