Praise the LORD, O my soul.1 O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.22
He wraps3 himself in light4 as with a garment; he stretches5 out the heavens6 like a tent73
and lays the beams8 of his upper chambers on their waters.9 He makes the clouds10 his chariot11 and rides on the wings of the wind.124
He makes winds his messengers,a13 flames of fire14 his servants.
He set the earth15 on its foundations;16 it can never be moved.
You covered it17 with the deep18 as with a garment; the waters stood19 above the mountains.
But at your rebuke20 the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder21 they took to flight;
they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned22 for them.
You set a boundary23 they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.
He makes springs24 pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.
They give water25 to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys26 quench their thirst.
The birds of the air27 nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.2813
He waters the mountains29 from his upper chambers;30 the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work.3114
He makes grass grow32 for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-- bringing forth food33 from the earth:
wine34 that gladdens the heart of man, oil35 to make his face shine, and bread that sustains36 his heart.
The trees of the LORD37 are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon38 that he planted.
There the birds39 make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees.
The high mountains belong to the wild goats;40 the crags are a refuge for the coneys.b4119
The moon marks off the seasons,42 and the sun43 knows when to go down.
You bring darkness,44 it becomes night,45 and all the beasts of the forest46 prowl.
The lions roar for their prey47 and seek their food from God.4822
The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.4923
Then man goes out to his work,50 to his labor until evening.5124
How many are your works,52 O LORD! In wisdom you made53 them all; the earth is full of your creatures.5425
There is the sea,55 vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small.5626
There the ships57 go to and fro, and the leviathan,58 which you formed to frolic59 there.6027
These all look to you to give them their food61 at the proper time.
When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied62 with good things.
When you hide your face,63 they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.6430
When you send your Spirit,65 they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
May the glory of the LORD66 endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works67--
he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,68 who touches the mountains,69 and they smoke.70
