They did not destroy1 the peoples as the LORD had commanded2 them,
but they mingled3 with the nations and adopted their customs.
They worshiped their idols,4 which became a snare5 to them.
They sacrificed their sons6 and their daughters to demons.738
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons8 and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood.
They defiled themselves9 by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted10 themselves.
Therefore the LORD was angry11 with his people and abhorred his inheritance.1241
He handed them over13 to the nations, and their foes ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed14 them and subjected them to their power.
Many times he delivered them,15 but they were bent on rebellion16 and they wasted away in their sin.
But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry;1745
for their sake he remembered his covenant18 and out of his great love19 he relented.2046
He caused them to be pitied21 by all who held them captive.
Save us,22 O LORD our God, and gather us23 from the nations, that we may give thanks24 to your holy name25 and glory in your praise.
Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!"26 Praise the LORD.
