the people of Israel.1 Theirs is the adoption as sons;2 theirs the divine glory,3 the covenants,4 the receiving of the law,5 the temple worship6 and the promises.75
Theirs are the patriarchs,8 and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ,9 who is God over all,10 forever praised!a11 Amen.
It is not as though God's word12 had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.137
Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned."b148
In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children,15 but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.16
