I said I would scatter1 them and blot out their memory from mankind,227
but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand3 and say, 'Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.' "428
They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment5 in them.
If only they were wise and would understand this6 and discern what their end will be!730
How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight,8 unless their Rock had sold them,9 unless the LORD had given them up?1031
For their rock is not like our Rock,11 as even our enemies concede.1232
Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom13 and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison,14 and their clusters with bitterness.1533
Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.1634

The LORD will judge his people22 and have compassion23 on his servants24 when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave25 or free.
He will say: "Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in,2638
the gods who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings?27 Let them rise up to help you! Let them give you shelter!
