39 "See now that I myself am He!¹ There is no god besides me.² I put to death³ and I bring to life,⁴ I have wounded and I will heal,⁵ and no one can deliver out of my hand.⁶ 40 I lift my hand⁷ to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever,⁸ 41 when I sharpen my flashing sword⁹ and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance¹⁰ on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.¹¹ 42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood,¹² while my sword devours flesh:¹³ the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders." 43 Rejoice,¹⁴ O nations, with his people,^a ^b for he will avenge the blood of his servants;¹⁵ he will take vengeance on his enemies¹⁶ and make atonement for his land and people.¹⁷
