5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud¹ and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD.² 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate³ and gracious God, slow to anger,⁴ abounding in love⁵ and faithfulness,⁶ 7 maintaining love to thousands,⁷ and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.⁸ Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;⁹ he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."¹⁰ 8 Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. 9 "O Lord, if I have found favor¹¹ in your eyes," he said, "then let the Lord go with us.¹² Although this is a stiff-necked¹³ people, forgive our wickedness and our sin,¹⁴ and take us as your inheritance."¹⁵
