At this time Amraphel king of Shinar,a1 Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer2 king of Elam3 and Tidal king of Goiim
went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim,4 and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).53
All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim6 (the Salt Seab7).
For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer,8 but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer9 and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites10 in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites11 in Shaveh Kiriathaim
and the Horites12 in the hill country of Seir,13 as far as El Paran14 near the desert.
Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh),15 and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites,16 as well as the Amorites17 who were living in Hazazon Tamar.188
Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah,19 the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim20 and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar)21 marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim229
against Kedorlaomer23 king of Elam,24 Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar--four kings against five.
Now the Valley of Siddim25 was full of tar26 pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah27 fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.2811
The four kings seized all the goods29 of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.
They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot30 and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
