4a1This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in 2the day that the LORDGodmadeearth and heaven.
53Now noshrub of the field was yet in the earth, and noplant of the field had yetsprouted, 4for the LORDGod had not sentrain upon the earth, and there was noman to bcultivate the ground.
But a cmist used to rise from the earth and water the wholedsurface of the ground.
Then the LORDGodformedman of 5dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and 6manbecame a livingebeing.
The LORDGodplanted a 7gardentoward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the manwhom He had formed.
Out of the ground the LORDGod caused to grow8everytree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; 9the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Now a 10riverfflowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and becamefourgrivers.
The name of the first is Pishon; it hflowsaround the wholeland of 11Havilah, wherethere is gold.
The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyxstone are there.
The name of the secondriver is Gihon; it iflowsaround the wholeland of Cush.
The name of the thirdriver is j12Tigris; it kflowseast of Assyria. And the fourthriver is the l13Euphrates.
Then the LORDGodtook the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.
The LORDGod14commanded the man, saying, "From anytree of the garden you may eatfreely;
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not meat, for in the day that you eat from it 15you will surelydie."
Then the LORDGodsaid, "It is not good for the man to be alone; 16I will make him a helpernsuitable for him."
1917Out of the ground the LORDGodformedeverybeast of the field and everybird of the osky, and 18brought them to the man to seewhat he would call them; and whatever the mancalled a livingcreature, that was its name.
The mangavenames to all the cattle, and to the birds of the psky, and to everybeast of the field, but for qAdam there was not found19a helperrsuitable for him.
So the LORDGod caused a 20deepsleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He tookone of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.
The LORDGodsfashioned into a woman21the ribwhich He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.
The mansaid, "22This is nowbone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; tShe shall be calleduWoman, Becausevshe was taken out of wMan."
2423For thisreason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall becomeoneflesh.
2524And the man and his wife were bothnaked and were not ashamed.
