Young's Literal Translation
Therefore Sheol has enlarged its throat and opened its mouth without measure ; And Jerusalem's splendor, her multitude, her din of revelry and the jubilant within her, descend into it.
For he has said, "By the power of my hand and by my wisdom I did this, For I have understanding ; And I removed the boundaries of the peoples And plundered their treasures, And like a mighty man I brought down their inhabitants,
'Your pomp and the music of your harps Have been brought down to Sheol ; Maggots are spread out as your bed beneath you And worms are your covering.'
"Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.
"But you have been cast out of your tomb Like a rejected branch, Clothed with the slain who are pierced with a sword, Who go down to the stones of the pit Like a trampled corpse.
In their streets they have girded themselves with sackcloth ; On their housetops and in their squares Everyone is wailing, dissolved in tears.
Who proceed down to Egypt Without consulting Me, To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt !
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD !
For thus says the LORD to me, "As the lion or the young lion growls over his prey, Against which a band of shepherds is called out, And he will not be terrified at their voice nor disturbed at their noise, So will the LORD of hosts come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill."
And it will hail when the forest comes down, And the city will be utterly laid low.
For My sword is satiated in heaven, Behold it shall descend for judgment upon Edom And upon the people whom I have devoted to destruction.
Wild oxen will also fall with them And young bulls with strong ones ; Thus their land will be soaked with blood, And their dust become greasy with fat.
"Behold, I will cause the shadow on the stairway, which has gone down with the sun on the stairway of Ahaz, to go back ten steps." So the sun's shadow went back ten steps on the stairway on which it had gone down.
"For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness.
Sing to the LORD a new song, Sing His praise from the end of the earth ! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it. You islands, and those who dwell on them.
Thus says the LORD your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, "For your sake I have sent to Babylon, And will bring them all down as fugitives, Even the Chaldeans, into the ships in which they rejoice.
"Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon ; Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans ! For you shall no longer be called tender and delicate.
For thus says the Lord GOD, "My people went down at the first into Egypt to reside there ; then the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.
"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater ;
"I trod down the peoples in My anger And made them drunk in My wrath, And I poured out their lifeblood on the earth."
As the cattle which go down into the valley, The Spirit of the LORD gave them rest. So You led Your people, To make for Yourself a glorious name.
Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down, That the mountains might quake at Your presence -
When You did awesome things which we did not expect, You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence.
