"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant1 with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant2 I made with their forefathers3 when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,4 because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband5 toa them,b " declares the LORD.
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds6 and write it on their hearts.7 I will be their God, and they will be my people.834
No longer will a man teach9 his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know10 me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive11 their wickedness and will remember their sins12 no more."
This is what the LORD says, he who appoints13 the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,14 who stirs up the sea15 so that its waves roar16-- the LORD Almighty is his name:1736
"Only if these decrees18 vanish from my sight," declares the LORD, "will the descendants19 of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."
This is what the LORD says: "Only if the heavens above can be measured20 and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject21 all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done," declares the LORD.
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when this city will be rebuilt22 for me from the Tower of Hananel23 to the Corner Gate.2439
The measuring line25 will stretch from there straight to the hill of Gareb and then turn to Goah.
The whole valley26 where dead bodies27 and ashes are thrown, and all the terraces out to the Kidron Valley28 on the east as far as the corner of the Horse Gate,29 will be holy30 to the LORD. The city will never again be uprooted or demolished."
