The moon marks off the seasons,1 and the sun2 knows when to go down.
You bring darkness,3 it becomes night,4 and all the beasts of the forest5 prowl.
The lions roar for their prey6 and seek their food from God.722
The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.823
Then man goes out to his work,9 to his labor until evening.1024
How many are your works,11 O LORD! In wisdom you made12 them all; the earth is full of your creatures.1325
There is the sea,14 vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small.1526
There the ships16 go to and fro, and the leviathan,17 which you formed to frolic18 there.1927
These all look to you to give them their food20 at the proper time.
When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied21 with good things.
When you hide your face,22 they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.2330
When you send your Spirit,24 they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
