2 Chronicles 36:2 Meaning and Commentary

2 Chronicles 36:14

I am not able to bear all this people alone
The burden of government of them, to take care of them and provide sustenance for them; but he was not alone, for, not to take notice of the rulers and officers in the several divisions of the people that assisted and eased him in lighter matters, advised to by Jethro, ( Exodus 18:21 Exodus 18:22 ) , the Lord himself was with him in all matters of moment and difficulty; to whom he could apply at any time for advice, and who had promised to supply and did supply the people with suitable and proper provisions every day:

because [it is] too heavy for me;
to answer the requests, redress the grievances, and supply the necessities of this people.

2 Chronicles 36:2 In-Context

1 The people of the land took Jehoahaz, Josiah's son, and made him the next king in Jerusalem.
2 Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he became king, and he ruled for three months in Jerusalem.
3 The king of Egypt removed him from office in Jerusalem. The Egyptian king imposed a fine on the land totaling one hundred kikkars of silver and one kikkar of gold.
4 Then the king of Egypt made Jehoahaz's brother Eliakim king of Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Neco took his brother Jehoahaz prisoner and carried him off to Egypt.
5 Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he became king, and he ruled for eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the LORD's eyes.
