John 7:9 Meaning and Commentary

John 7:9

When he had said these words unto them
Had exhorted them to go up to the feast, and told them that he should not go yet, and the reason of it:

he abode [still] in Galilee;
and went not up with his brethren, nor at all at present; showing hereby a firmness and resolution of mind, not using lightness of speech; and his words being not yea, and nay, but all of a piece, and by which he abode.

John 7:9 In-Context

7 The world can't hate you. It hates me, though, because I testify that its works are evil.
8 You go up to the festival. I'm not going to this one because my time hasn't yet come."
9 Having said this, he stayed in Galilee.
10 However, after his brothers left for the festival, he went too—not openly but in secret.
11 The Jewish leaders were looking for Jesus at the festival. They kept asking, "Where is he?"
