Luke 9:30 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 9:30

And behold there talked with him two men
Of great note and fame:

which were Moses and Elias;
the one the giver of the law from God to the people "of Israel", as well as the redeemer of them from Egyptian bondage, and who led them through the wilderness, to the borders of Canaan's land; and the other a prophet famous for his zeal for God, and his worship, and who was translated, soul and body, to heaven: these appeared and talked with Christ on the mount; and what they talked of is mentioned in the following verse; (See Gill on Matthew 17:3).

Luke 9:30 In-Context

28 About eight days after Jesus said these things, he took Peter, John, and James, and went up on a mountain to pray.
29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes flashed white like lightning.
30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, were talking with him.
31 They were clothed with heavenly splendor and spoke about Jesus' departure, which he would achieve in Jerusalem.
32 Peter and those with him were almost overcome by sleep, but they managed to stay awake and saw his glory as well as the two men with him.
