John 12:10

But the chief priests
With the rest of the sanhedrim:

consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
as well as Jesus, and that for no other crime, but because he was raised from the dead by him; which shows what consciences these men had, and how horribly wicked they were; that they stopped at nothing, whereby they might satisfy their malice and envy, and secure their worldly interests and advantages.

9 Many Jews learned that he was there. They came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 The chief priests decided that they would kill Lazarus too.
11 It was because of Lazarus that many of the Jews had deserted them and come to believe in Jesus.
12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
