Exodus 13:22 Meaning and Commentary

Exodus 13:22

He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day
It always appeared in the daytime, and was a guide and shelter: nor the pillar of fire by night, [from] before the people;
this continued till they came through the wilderness to the borders of the land of Canaan, when they needed it no longer, and then it left them; for when they passed over Jordan the ark went before them, ( Joshua 3:6 ) .

Exodus 13:22 In-Context

20 They traveled from Sukkot and set up camp in Etam, at the edge of the desert.
21 ADONAI went ahead of them in a column of cloud during the daytime to lead them on their way, and at night in a column of fire to give them light; thus they could travel both by day and by night.
22 Neither the column of cloud by day nor the column of fire at night went away from in front of the people.
