When you were dead in your sins1 and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature,a God made youb alive2 with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,314
having canceled the written code, with its regulations,4 that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.515
And having disarmed the powers and authorities,6 he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them7 by the cross.c16
Therefore do not let anyone judge you8 by what you eat or drink,9 or with regard to a religious festival,10 a New Moon celebration11 or a Sabbath day.1217
These are a shadow of the things that were to come;13 the reality, however, is found in Christ.
Do not let anyone who delights in false humility14 and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize.15 Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.
He has lost connection with the Head,16 from whom the whole body,17 supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.1820
Since you died with Christ19 to the basic principles of this world,20 why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules:2121
"Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!"?
These are all destined to perish22 with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.2323
Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility24 and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
