Israel convinced Moses to send the spies. After they came back with their report the people were afraid to go in and take it. Gods anger is displayed against them in judgement and they suddenly have a change of heart and want to go into the land, even though God no longer goes with them. They suffer defeat.

Its interesting that a jealous husband has a remedy through a priest to check on a wife's fidelity. He must still pay a price with an offering for his jealousy however. The drink concoction and the oath to God leave the matter to God to display the guilt or the innocence of the women.
Have to find out if there is a counter measure for the jealous wife. A man committing adultery is still put to death however. Read less

Azazel was a Mount outside of Jerusalem. According to 1 Enoch Azazel could also be the name of a demon from prior to the flood, though support outside of the book of Enoch does not seem to exist.
The goat had a red thread attached to it. The goat was led out to the wilderness to Mt. Azazel where half the thread was taken and attached to a rock there. The goat was then pushed off a precipice where it would die. The idea is that the sin of Israel was banished to the denizens of the lost angels. Read less

It is interesting that after having seen God hit the Egyptians and even themselves with Plagues, then kill off the first born, then deliver them from the army of Egypt and shake the mountain, they want Aaron to make them gods. Those made gods had not done anything for them, yet they attributed their release from Egypt to these false gods. Read less
