Genesis 24:1

A Wife for Isaac

1 Abraham was now old, getting on in years,[a] and the Lord had blessed him in everything.

Genesis 24:1 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 24:1

And Abraham was old, [and] well stricken in age
Being now one hundred and forty years of age, for as he was an hundred years old when Isaac was born, and Isaac was forty years of age when he married Rebekah, which was at this time, Abraham must be of the age mentioned, see ( Genesis 21:5 ) ( 25:20 ) ; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things;
with all kind of blessings, with temporal and spiritual blessings; the former seems chiefly designed here, because of what follows; God had blessed him, as Aben Ezra observes, with long life, and riches, and honour, and children, things desirable by men.

Genesis 24:1 In-Context

1 Abraham was now old, getting on in years, and the Lord had blessed him in everything.
2 Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his household who managed all he owned, "Place your hand under my thigh,
3 and I will have you swear by the Lord, God of heaven and God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites among whom I live,
4 but will go to my land and my family to take a wife for my son Isaac."
5 The servant said to him, "Suppose the woman is unwilling to follow me to this land? Should I have your son go back to the land you came from?"
