1 Xiānzhī Yǐlìshā jiào le yī gè xiānzhī méntǔ lái , fēnfu tā shuō , nǐ shù shàng yào , shǒu ná zhè píng gāo yóu wǎng Jīliè de là mò qù .

2 Dào le nàli , yào xúnzhǎo níng shì de sūnzi , Yuēshāfǎ de érzi yé hù , shǐ tā cóng tóng liaó zhōng qǐlai , daì tā jìn yán mì de wūzi ,

3 Jiāng píng lǐ de gāo yóu dǎo zaì tā tóu shàng , shuō , Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , wǒ gāo nǐ zuò Yǐsèliè wáng . shuō wán le , jiù kāi mén taópǎo , búyào chíyán .

4 Yúshì nà shàonián xiānzhī wǎng Jīliè de là mò qù le .

5 Dào le nàli , kànjian zhòng jūnzhǎng dōu zuò zhe , jiù shuō , jiāng jūn nǎ , wǒ yǒu huà duì nǐ shuō . yē2 hù shuō , wǒmen zhòngrén lǐ , nǐ yào duì nǎ yī gè shuō ne . huídá shuō , jiāng jūn nǎ , wǒ yào duì nǐ shuō .

6 Yé hù jiù qǐlai , jìn le wūzi , shàonián rén jiāng gāo yóu dǎo zaì tā tóu shàng , duì tā shuō , Yēhéhuá Yǐsèliè de shén rúcǐ shuō , wǒ gāo nǐ zuò Yēhéhuá mín Yǐsèliè de wáng .

7 Nǐ yào jī shā nǐ zhǔrén yà hā de quán jiā , wǒ hǎo zaì yé xǐ bié shēnshang shēn wǒ púrén zhòng xiānzhī hé Yēhéhuá yīqiè púrén liúxuè de yuān .

8 Yà hā quán jiā bì dōu mièwáng , fán shǔ yà hā de nán dīng , wúlùn shì kùn zhù de , zìyóu de , wǒ bì cóng Yǐsèliè zhōng jiǎnchú ,

9 Shǐ yà hā de jiā xiàng ní bā érzi Yéluóbōān de jiā , yòu xiàng Yàxīyǎ érzi bā shā de jiā .

10 Yé xǐ bié bì zaì yé sī liè tián lǐ beì gǒu suǒ chī , wú rén zàng mán . shuō wán le , shàonián rén jiù kāi mén taópǎo le .

11 Yé hù chūlai , huí dào tā zhǔrén de chénpú nàli , yǒu yī rén wèn tā shuō , píngān ma . zhè kuáng wàng de rén lái jiàn nǐ yǒu shénme shì ne . huídá shuō , nǐmen rèn dé nà rén , yĕ zhīdào tā shuō shénme .

12 Tāmen shuō , zhè shì jiǎ huà , nǐ jū shí dì gàosu wǒmen . huídá shuō , tā rúcǐ rúcǐ duì wǒ shuō . tā shuō , Yēhéhuá rúcǐ shuō , wǒ gāo nǐ zuò Yǐsèliè wáng .

13 tāmen jiù jímáng gè jiāng zìjǐ de yīfu pū zaì shàng céng táijiē , shǐ yé hù zuò zaì qí shàng . tāmen chuī jiǎo , shuō , yé hù zuò wáng le .

14 Zhèyàng , níng shì de sūnzi , Yuēshāfǎ de érzi yé hù beìpàn Yuēlán . xiān shì Yuēlán hé Yǐsèliè zhòngrén yīnwei Yàlán wáng hā xuē de yuángù , bǎshǒu Jīliè de là mò .

15 Dàn Yuēlán wáng huí dào yé sī liè , yīzhì yǔ Yàlán wáng hā xuē dǎzhàng suǒ shòu de shāng . yé hù shuō , ruò hé nǐmen de yìsi , jiù bùróng rén taó chū chéng wǎng yé sī liè bàoxìn qù .

16 Yúshì yé hù zuò chē wǎng yé sī liè qù , yīnwei Yuēlán bìng wò zaì nàli . Yóudà wáng yà hā xiè yǐjing xià qù kàn wàng tā .

17 Yǒu yī gè shǒu wàng de rén zhàn zaì yé sī liè de lóu shàng , kànjian yé hù daì zhe yī qún rén lái , jiù shuō , wǒ kànjian yī qún rén . Yuēlán shuō , dǎfa yī gè qí mǎ de qù yíngjiē tāmen , wèn shuō , píngān bù píngān .

18 Qí mǎ de jiù qù yíngjiē yé hù , shuō , wáng wèn shuō , píngān bù píngān . yé hù shuō , píngān bù píngān yǔ nǐ hé gān . nǐ zhuǎn zaì wǒ hòutou ba . shǒu wàng de rén yòu shuō , shǐzhĕ dào le tāmen nàli , què bù huí lái .

19 Wáng yòu dǎfa yī gè qí mǎ de qù . zhè rén dào le tāmen nàli , shuō , wáng wèn shuō , píngān bù píngān . yé hù shuō , píngān bù píngān yǔ nǐ hé gān . nǐ zhuǎn zaì wǒ hòutou ba .

20 Shǒu wàng de rén yòu shuō , tā dào le tāmen nàli , yĕ bù huí lái . chē gǎn dé shén mĕng , xiàng níng shì de sūnzi yé hù de gǎn fǎ .

21 Yuēlán fēnfu shuō , tào chē . rén jiù gĕi tā tào chē . Yǐsèliè wáng Yuēlán hé Yóudà wáng yà hā xiè gè zuò zìjǐ de chē chū qù yíngjiē yé hù , zaì yé sī liè rén ná bǎi de tián nàli yùjiàn tā .

22 Yuēlán jiàn yé hù jiù shuō , yé hù a , píngān ma . yé hù shuō , nǐ mǔqin yé xǐ biéde yín xíng xiéshù zhèyàng duō , yān néng píngān ne .

23 Yuēlán jiù zhuǎn chē taópǎo , duì yà hā xiè shuō , yà hā xiè a , fǎn le .

24 Yé hù kāi mǎn le gōng , shè zhōng Yuēlán de jí bēi , jiàn cóng xīn wō chuān chū , Yuēlán jiù pú dǎo zaì chē shàng .

25 Yé hù duì tāde jūnzhǎng bì jiǎ shuō , nǐ bǎ tā pāo zaì yé sī liè rén ná bǎi de tiánjiān . nǐ dāng zhuī xiǎng , nǐ wǒ yītóng zuò chē gēnsuí tā fù yà hā de shíhou , Yēhéhuá duì yà hā suǒ shuō de yùyán ,

26 Shuō , wǒ zuòrì kànjian ná bǎi de xuè hé tā zhòng zǐ de xuè , wǒ bì zaì zhè kuaì tián shàng bàoyìng nǐ . zhè shì Yēhéhuá shuō de , xiànzaì nǐ yào zhào zhe Yēhéhuá de huà , bǎ tā pāo zaì zhè tiánjiān .

27 Yóudà wáng yà hā xiè jiàn zhè guāngjǐng , jiù cóng yuán tíng zhī lù taópǎo . yé hù zhuīgǎn tā , shuō , bǎ zhè rén yĕ shā zaì chē shàng . dào le kàojìn yǐ bǎi lián de gū Ěr pō shàng jī shāng le tā . tā taó dào Mǐjíduō , jiù sǐ zaì nàli .

28 Tāde chénpú yòng chē jiāng tāde shī shǒu sòng dào Yēlùsǎlĕng , zàng zaì Dàwèi chéng tā zìjǐ de fùnmù lǐ , yǔ tā lièzǔ tóng zàng .

29 Yà hā xiè dēng jī zuò Yóudà wáng de shíhou , shì zaì yà hā de érzi Yuēlán dì shí yī nián .

30 Yé hù dào le yé sī liè . yé xǐ bié tīngjian jiù cā fĕn , shūtóu , cóng chuānghu lǐ wǎng waì guānkàn .

31 Yé hù jìn mén de shíhou , yé xǐ bié shuō , shā zhǔrén de xīn lì a , píngān ma .

32 Yé hù tái tóu xiàng chuānghu guānkàn , shuō , shuí shùncóng wǒ . yǒu liǎng sān gè taì jiān cóng chuānghu wǎng waì kàn tā .

33 Yé hù shuō , bǎ tā rēng xià lái . tāmen jiù bǎ tā rēng xià lái . tāde xuè jiān zaì qiáng shàng hé mǎ shàng . yúshì bǎ tā jiàntà le .

34 Yé hù jìn qù , chī le hē le , fēnfu shuō , nǐmen bǎ zhè beì zhòuzǔ de fùrén zàng mán le , yīnwei tā shì wáng de nǚér .

35 Tāmen jiù qù zàng mán tā , zhǐ xún dé tāde tóu gú hé jiǎo , bìng shǒuzhǎng .

36 Tāmen huí qù gàosu yé hù , yé hù shuō , zhè zhèngyīng yàn Yēhéhuá jiè tā púrén tí sī bǐ rén Yǐlìyà suǒ shuō de huà , shuō , zaì yé sī liè tiánjiān , gǒu bì chī yé xǐ biéde ròu .

37 Yé xǐ biéde shī shǒu bì zaì yé sī liè tiánjiān rútóng fèntǔ , shènzhì rén bùnéng shuō zhè shì yé xǐ bié .

Lièwángjìxià 9 Commentary

Chapter 9

Elisha sends to anoint Jehu. (1-10) Jehu and the captains. (11-15) Joram and Ahaziah slain by Jehu. (16-29) Jezebel eaten by dogs. (30-37)

Verses 1-10 In these and the like events, we must acknowledge the secret working of God, disposing men to fulfil his purposes respecting them. Jehu was anointed king over Israel, by the Lord's special choice. The Lord still had a remnant of his people, and would yet preserve his worship among them. Of this Jehu was reminded. He was commanded to destroy the house of Ahab, and, as far as he acted in obedience to God, and upon right principles, he needed not to regard reproach or opposition. The murder of God's prophets is strongly noticed. Jezebel persisted in idolatry and enmity to Jehovah and his servants, and her iniquity was now full.

Verses 11-15 Those who faithfully deliver the Lord's message to sinners, have in all ages been treated as madmen. Their judgment, speech, and conduct are contrary to those of other men; they endure much in pursuit of objects, and are influenced by motives, into which the others cannot enter. But above all, the charge is brought by the worldly and ungodly of all sorts, who are mad indeed; while the principles and practice of the devoted servants of God, prove to be wise and reasonable. Some faith in the word of God, seems to have animated Jehu to this undertaking.

Verses 16-29 Jehu was a man of eager spirit. The wisdom of God is seen in the choice of those employed in his work. But it is not for any man's reputation to be known by his fury. He that has rule over his own spirit, is better than the mighty. Joram met Jehu in the portion of Naboth. The circumstances of events are sometimes ordered by Divine Providence to make the punishment answer to the sin, as face answers to face in a glass. The way of sin can never be the way of peace, ( Isaiah 57:21 ) . What peace can sinners have with God? No peace so long as sin is persisted in; but when it is repented of and forsaken, there is peace. Joram died as a criminal, under the sentence of the law. Ahaziah was joined with the house of Ahab. He was one of them; he had made himself so by sin. It is dangerous to join evil-doers; we shall be entangled in guilt and misery by it.

Verses 30-37 Instead of hiding herself, as one afraid of Divine vengeance, Jezebel mocked at fear. See how a heart, hardened against God, will brave it out to the last. There is not a surer presage of ruin, than an unhumbled heart under humbling providences. Let those look at Jezebel's conduct and fate, who use arts to seduce others to commit wickedness, and to draw them aside from the ways of truth and righteousness. Jehu called for aid against Jezebel. When reformation-work is on foot, it is time to ask, Who sides with it? Her attendants delivered her up. Thus she was put to death. See the end of pride and cruelty, and say, The Lord is righteous. When we pamper our bodies, let us think how vile they are; shortly they will be a feast for worms under ground, or beasts above ground. May we all flee from that wrath which is revealed from heaven, against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.

In this chapter we are told that one of the sons of the prophets was sent by Elisha to anoint Jehu king of Israel, and to order him to smite and destroy the whole house of Ahab, 2Ki 9:1-10, which being done unto him, and the order received by Jehu, he acquainted his captains with it, 2Ki 9:11-15, who set out with him immediately to Jezreel, 2Ki 9:16-21, where he slew Joram king of Israel, 2Ki 9:22-26, and Ahaziah king of Judah, 2Ki 9:27-29, and Jezebel, the widow of Ahab, and mother of Joram, 2Ki 9:30-37.
